Major Sports Offered

Athletics forms a key part of the PE curriculum during the Summer term. Pupils participate in all athletic events and those that wish to further their athletic performance can also train in after school clubs. Our extensive fields convert into a 200m track with additional track space for hurdles and sprints, along with all throwing and jumping events.

Pupils compete in many intra-school competitions and we also host our own annual athletics competition as well as our Inter House Track and Field Championships on the all-weather track at Barn Elms.

At Borough level both our boys’ and girls’ teams always finish within the top three schools and each year large numbers of our competing athletes secure medals in individual events. We regularly have pupils competing in the London schools Championships and often have London Schools County Champions in a variety of events.

Cross Country takes place during the Autumn and Spring Terms. All pupils take part in our Inter House Cross Country where we take full advantage of our proximity to Richmond Park. It also provides the perfect location for Cross Country Club.

Pupils compete in Wandsworth Borough Cross Country Championships and those that excel represent Wandsworth at the London Schools Cross Country Championships. Our elite performers go on to compete for London in the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

Cricket is the main sport played at Ibstock throughout the summer. It is offered to all our pupils and played by boys and girls of all abilities from Prep 3 to Upper Sixth Form.

We have a large sports hall with two indoor nets, and our Astro boasts 5 x outdoor nets. We play our home fixtures at the Barn Elms Sports Trust, Sheen Park CC and have links with both Roehampton CC and Richmond CC.

We play on a competitive local circuit and enter competitions including the HMC T20 and Surrey Cup as well as several indoor competitions throughout the winter, including both the ECB girls and boy’s cup. Additionally, we host an annual fixture against MCC and finish our season with Cricket Day which sees the 1st XI take on a Staff XI and Parents XI.

Our coaching team includes former Middlesex CCC player Adam London and we also work with the coaching team at T20 Community to further develop our players and teams.

Thriving clubs run all year round, with competitions running from November to March and our pre-season and co-curricular clubs begin during the Spring Term. Our summer programme includes a busy schedule of clubs which run alongside lessons, and a packed fixtures calendar.

We have a number of aspiring players representing local adult teams across the Surrey leagues and are proud to offer scholarships to some of our elite performers. We have several pupils who are often put forward for county trials at both Surrey CCC and Middlesex CCC, representing boys’ and girls’ teams across different age groups.

Fixtures can be found on our Sports Website.

For further information please contact Head of Cricket, Bradley Mildon.

There are a number of inspirational opportunities in Football at Ibstock. By working with community partners including Chelsea FC, offering high performance coaching and international tours, we aim to offer pupils different pathways to help them achieve above and beyond their potential and instil a lifelong involvement in the game.

There are extensive opportunities to play competitive football, with more than 30 football teams and all pupils able to participate in at least six competitive fixtures during the term.

Ibstock tournaments are held at Barn Elms Sports Trust or local facilities including Rossyln Park and Bank of England.

Our extensive fixture list includes schools such as Hampton, Bradfield, Brentwood, and Alleyns. We play in the prestigious Elgin League and enter the ISFA and ESFA Cup, enjoying tremendous success in both. We also have a number of pupils attached to professional clubs, notably Brentford and a range of players have represented the county.

We put our success down to, in large part, a comprehensive football programme that provides pupils, alongside their games lessons, with the environment to practice and develop their individual and team skills.

Tournaments with alumni, staff and our ‘Friday Night Lights’ Fixtures create strong bonds with pupils and provide additional opportunities for the entire school to come together and support each other.

Recent tours to Barcelona, Madrid, Manchester and Rotterdam have been overwhelming successes and have contributed to driving Ibstock football to the next level.

For further information please contact Head of Football, Ben Lawson.

Hockey runs through the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms, with the focus building as we progress through the school year. The calendar starts in August with the pre-season training camp and culminates with key events in the Spring term, such as the incredibly popular Staff vs U18, the Stocks vs U18 and the Friday Night Lights’ U18’s fixture against Emanuel School.

Once the official fixture calendar finishes, we begin the Summer Hockey League where both boys and girls can play in matches over the Summer term. Other exciting events throughout the season include the Independent Schools Hockey Cup and the County Tournaments.

We are proud to have several players at Ibstock who play Hockey at County level, in the Surrey and Middlesex teams. We run a High Performance Centre at lunch times on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday where we provide specialist coaching for the most talented players. We also regularly invite top coaches, who have competed at international level, to run sessions and we have been lucky enough to learn from Laura Unsworth and Crista Cullen - both Gold Medallists in the 2016 Olympic Games.

A wide variety of clubs provide specialist training for those looking to work on a particular position or skill and as well as providing top coaching, we organise international tours where players are trained by, and play against, top opposition. In addition to tours, pupils enjoy trips to watch international hockey throughout the year.

We are particularly proud of our brand new, long term, project with Spencer Lynx Hockey Club and two local primary schools. This new Hockey club is open to pupils who have little opportunity to play sport or engage in physical activity.

Ibstock Netball aims to provide club opportunities for all to participate and engage with the sport. We hope that this encourages many pupils to gain a passion for the sport and take it into their future after school. The fixture list is varied and extensive, which enables pupils from all abilities to represent the School at netball. Our entry into National Cup competitions for U12-U18 netball, allows for those high ability pupils to be pushed beyond their comfort zone, and compete in very high standard games.

Those pupils who demonstrate a high level of potential in the sport will be encouraged to join a club outside of school to further their ability, and some will be nominated for Surrey County Trials, allowing them the access to the England Netball Pathway.

All pupils are encouraged to play Rugby, regardless of ability, with everyone having the opportunity to play in competitive fixtures. We deliver an inspirational and skill-based Rugby program, which is consistently focused on developing every pupil as an individual.

Pupils enjoy coaching every week from Rosslyn Park and Harlequins. With a clear progression plan from the Lower School to the 1st XV, pupils take part in a range of team practices, strength and conditioning sessions and skills clinics from these external coaches.

The fixture card challenges pupils to face local and national teams and we have A, B and C teams across all age groups. Pupils play Rugby from January-April as part of their games lessons with weekly fixtures on offer which can be found on our SOCs website. The Senior team also play fixtures in the winter term.

Pupils are encouraged to attend their weekly club session as this is another opportunity to sharpen their rugby skills and improve performance.

We aim to install a playing philosophy where pupils work hard for each other and build leadership and personal skills they can take forward in their future lives. Coaching is focused on creating a team environment where players can hone their skills, have confidence in their decision making, recognise the importance of working toward a team goal and, most importantly, enjoy the game.

If you have any enquiries, please contact Mr Cameron Carr.
