Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Ibstock Place is a co-educational school, actively committed to providing an environment in which all pupils are challenged to be the best they can be.

Pupils and staff know that they are valued and a culture of mutual respect is fostered.

To ensure everyone can thrive and meet their full potential, inclusion and equality of opportunity is at the core of the School’s ethos.

By celebrating diversity in both the academic and pastoral life of the school and promoting equality, pupils and staff know that they are valued and a culture of mutual respect is fostered.

We will not tolerate any form of discrimination. We proactively foster social cohesion in all areas of school life, pastoral, academic and co-curricular, and seek to remove any barriers to access, participation, progression, attainment, and achievement.

Clubs and Societies

A wide range of co-curricular clubs and societies support our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion work including:

  • African, Caribbean, Asian and Allies Society (ACAAS). Our pupil-led anti-racist society is a place for discussions, support, mentoring, mediation, education, speakers’ voices, and celebration!   Everyone  is welcome  at  ACAAS.
  • Feminist Society. Everyone is welcome to attend our popular weekly sessions, which often link up with ACAAS or PRIDE to listen to inspiring, intersectional speakers.
  • PRIDE Society. PRIDE is an active society at Ibstock, regularly presenting at assemblies and organising activities in support of LGBTQ+ activities.
  • Arabic Cultural Club meets weekly and focuses on celebrating the cultural heritage of the Arab world as well as the Arabic language.

Through celebrations, we show support not only to individual pupils who feel themselves celebrated, but also to their friends and colleagues whose understanding and knowledge is broadened.

Our commitment to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) is threaded through school life.

Pastoral Time is a daily opportunity for pupils to be supported by their tutors and small tutor group community. Assemblies provide opportunities for pupils to listen to stories about other experiences and viewpoints, or to speak about their own experiences.

Our PHSE curriculum prepares pupils with age-appropriate and open discussions on topics such as discrimination, racism, anti-semitism and sexism.
